Just a quick tip and a word of warning for those of you who hold Eheim classic canister filters. When I was cleaning my Eheim 2217 and 2213 this weekend, I made a mistake of cleaning off the residue and mucus around rotor and rotor magnet. I plugged it back in and Wow, is strong. It seems that the precipitate and slime, creates a natural lubrication, maintain quiet. So when cleaning out your Eheim, resist the urge to clear this sludge or will likely have very noisy filter then!
To fix this problem, I have some Vaseline and rubbed around the rotor shaft and magnet. I plugged it back in and noise is significantly reduced. With time the sediment will build up again and he will return to his old dead silent movement, but at least I know now to never Clear it again!
